Tiny, eager hands reached out for the crinkly, squishy toy I placed before him. Without hesitation or reluctance, his little arms would stretch out and his hands would search for the toy within his grasp. He was seeking the toy.
My son is at the point where everything is interesting to him. It’s a fun game of
I was thinking about the concept of “seeking Him first.”
Of truly seeking God with my mind, body, and spirit. Of thinking of Him before I take any kind of action. Right when I wake up, knowing He is there and ready to face the day with me. This is something I strive for, but what does that mean? What does that look like?
A song we sing in children’s church resonates with me:
“My heart beats, only for Your
glory Every Beat by Northpoint InsideOut
My hands reach, up for You to hold me”
Just as my son reaches up to me with confidence knowing my hands will be there to grasp, so our Heavenly Father waits for us to seek Him so he can show us He is right there with open arms; ready to hold us, to laugh with us, to cry with us; to show us He is in control. I want to live this way: with the confidence that God is right here, in the midst of my chaos.
When you go to hug someone you know, you reach your arms out and they reach back. When you seek them, there they are found. You trust and are welcomed.
But if from there you seek the Lord your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul. When you are in distress and all these things have happened to you, then in later days you will return to the Lord your God and obey him. For the Lord your God is a merciful God; he will not abandon or destroy you…

Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father, thank you that when I seek you with my whole heart, I will find you. Please help show me what this looks like in my day-to-day life. Help me to seek you in my stress and weaknesses instead of trying to do it on my own. I love you very much. In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.
